The Royal Oak, Winsford
Thursday, November 08th, 2007
We ventured to Exmoor to put on one of our Pub Grub Nights and decided to try the Royal Oak in Winsford as we had heard the food was really good.
After a blustery journey over some of the darkest, narrowest lanes we have encountered so far, we were greeted by Ed and Kirsty, the new landlords who made us feel welcome straight away. Earlier this year they decided to put a bit more ‘muddy’ in their ‘muddy-townie ratios’ and explore their passion for good food and ingredients by giving up jobs in London to move to Exmoor and take over the pub.
As well as doing amazing food (their chef was just featured in the Shooting Times talking about game), they also have eight en-suite bedrooms and are a bit of a shooting party hotspot, falling slap, bang in the middle, as they do, of what fishing and shooting holiday specialists, Roxtons, reckon is “the spiritual home of high pheasant shooting”.
Regardless of whether you’re into shooting or not, the place is great and well worth a visit if you’re ever around Exmoor. For more information call 01643 851455, or visit their website.
