Tales from a Farmer’s Wife
Tuesday, July 02nd, 2013
One of the top ways in which people find their way to our website is by searching for the term “farmer wants a wife” or by searching for “farmer dating”, so we’re always interested in reading about people’s personal experiences of dating or marrying a farmer.
We even held a competition back in December, asking members for their tips for farmer dating tips. The competition brought up some key advice for dating arable farmers, sheep farmers and dairy farmers including:
- “Embrace the lifestyle as you can’t change it.”
- “Don’t even think about planning anything during the harvest.”
- “You have got to be prepared for anything, although getting covered in birth fluids is optional – maybe!”
Back in September 2012, farmer’s wife Lorna Sixsmith, also known as Irish Farmerette, published a blog post entitled ‘Advice to those considering marrying farmers – 9 Tips’ about her own experiences of being married to a dairy farmer. Along with advice that would make a farmer’s wife nod in agreement, the humour of the post has earned Lorna a wealth of followers and lots of great comments from fellow farmers’ wives and husbands.
The blog post proved so popular in fact that Lorna has decided to write a book about her experiences as a farmer’s wife entitled ‘Would You Marry a Farmer?’.
Find out about Lorna’s experience of being married to a farmer and about her book in the video below.
