New Online Dating Association Announced

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013

It has recently been announced that 13 online dating sites, including Muddy Matches, have joined forces to launch an Online Dating Association (ODA) this autumn.

The aim of the ODA is to help consumers make informed choices about which online dating sites to join.

A Code of Practice is currently being developed and, once finalised, ODA membership will be open to all online dating sites in the UK that can commit to and meet the standards set out in the Code.

The Code is to be anchored in the following set of principles, with supporting rules and guidance:

  1. Being honest and clear in what you offer.
  2. Meeting expectations and delivering what you promise.
  3. Protecting people’s data and their privacy.
  4. Protecting users from harm, deception and loss.

The ODA will be headed up by George Kidd (a former Cabinet Office Director responsible for regulation, risk and compliance policy across Whitehall) as CEO and Duncan Cunningham (managing director of The Dating Lab) as Chairman. George and Duncan will be supported by a board of directors selected from the members.

The initial members will be: Christian Connection, Dating Factory, eHarmony, FreeDating.co.uk, Guardian Soulmates, Love and Friends, Lovestruck, Match, Muddy Matches, My Single Friend, Oasis, The Dating Lab and The Single Solution.
