Victoria's Promise

A friend of Muddy Matches tragically lost her 29-year-old daughter, Victoria earlier this year to a rare and aggressive form of cancer. In her memory, and to help fund cutting edge research and create initiatives designed to improve those currently suffering with cancer, Victoria’s family have set up a charity in her name called Victoria’s Promise.

One of their first initiatives is to launch a Victoria Sponge Bake Day where they are asking everyone to help ‘bake a difference in the battle against cancer’ by baking a Victoria sponge cake on Saturday 14th June 2014.  The idea is to share it with family, friends, and colleagues, enjoy your time together and to donate £3.00 for each slice shared to Victoria’s Promise.  “Every penny of every pound”, they say “will be a step towards ensuring you and your loved ones can continue your journey through life together.”  You are also encouraged to post a photo of you and your sponge cake on Facebook and Twitter (#VPbakeday). To make a donation: Text VPSB01 £3 (or your chosen amount) to 70070.

Get Involved with Muddy Matches

The team at Muddy Matches are going to get involved and we’d love as many of you to join in as well.  Get baking and upload the photos of your cake to either the Muddy Matches Twitter or Facebook pages (as well as the Victoria’s Promise pages) with the hashtag #VPbakeday and we will give you a week’s free subscription to Muddy Matches the following week.  Once you have uploaded your photo to either account, you will need to private message us your Member ID or email address so we know which account to add it to.

Happy baking and we look forward to seeing the results! (And if, like Muddy Matches’ Lucy, you have no idea how to bake a Victoria Sponge cake, this should help).
