Love in a lockdown 2 blooms for online dater who finds comfort in English country living during uncertain times
Whilst the nation squabbles over the rights and wrongs of lockdown 2, lovestruck Muddy Matches member Jemma is keep deep in another ‘luxurious lockdown’, living her new life in the country whilst helping her now significant other out on the country estate.
Lockdown 1, back in March, saw Jemma not only move 200 miles cross country to bubble up with groundsman Mark, whom she met whilst online dating Muddy Matches, but also get engaged with a wedding date set for next year.
Now, a revisit of her success story one week into lockdown 2 – and following some business struggles that brought unexpected stress and concern – sees her actively enjoying another period of quiet contentment and a slower pace of life, locked down in rural East Devon all over again.
For some people, just the sheer idea of a simpler way of living with a degree of isolation having seen their usual social circles batten down the hatches will be daunting and one commonly fraught with anxiety and stress. Safety in numbers flies out of the window when locked-in, leaving some to climb the walls; something a back to basics daily routine and sense of purpose can’t counter.
However, even despite news of her redundancy now confirmed, a chance to reacquaint herself with nature and rediscover an appreciation for the countryside on her new doorstep delights Jemma.
A chance to regroup, regather her thoughts, and breathe fresh life into her life plans is something Jemma will happily, unashamedly, breathe in.
“We are very much looking forward to lockdown 2 as a fiancé and fiancee” Jemma tells us. “I know it doesn’t sound right, but we are.
“We have moved back into the cottages on the estate for the duration to look after the animals we have up there and tend to the grounds. No doubt there will be some winter foraging to drum up some preserves, pickles and other delights to see us through the winter.”
For Jemma, a switch to living in the beautiful Devon countryside – always part of her rural intentions, breeds contentment. She was no stranger to country life before, having upped sticks from a thatched cottage in a Hampshire village but she’s settled in the most rural of locations now.
It is helped by having a muddy match with over 30 years gamekeeping experience in Norfolk to call upon; but it also brings a level of luxury a fair country mile apart from the assumed perception of muddy boots and dirty overalls.
“There’s a massive 7 oven aga in the country kitchen for me to make the most of and a gorgeous ensuite copper bath so, for the two of us, whilst still working, lockdown will be totally luxurious.
Jemma’s experience is one that is backed up with statistics. It is widely reported that 1 in 5 Brits living in cities now harbor some form of rural aspiration following their lockdown 1; and at Muddy Matches, we have definitely felt this renewed will to escape to the country with swarms of new faces joining up in search of a muddy match with similar interests, intentions and outlooks on life.
Record levels of free registration and member engagement have been become a feature of life in the pandemic and looking for love in the countryside certainly hasn’t slowed in a lockdown – unlike the pace of life.
