Autumn Date Ideas
Wednesday, October 24th, 2012
The leaves have turned brown and there’s a chill in the air, which as any ‘muddy’ person will know marks the start of the autumn dating season. Whether you’re looking for an outdoor date or a cosy fireplace, take a look at our ideas for autumn dates:
Fireside pubs
I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but a good pub with a roaring fire is one of the most common ‘likes’ on Muddy Matches and with good reason. There’s nothing quite like getting in from the wind and rain, removing your muddy boots and drying off by the fireplace in a lovely countryside retreat.
A country pub is ideal for a first date and perfect for later down the line when you trust each other enough to meet for a woodland walk first or for foraging.
Foraging
If you’re a lover of good food, then the autumn provides a rich bounty of seasonal foods to cook for your date.
You could even get out and about with an organised group to go foraging for mushrooms. Doing an activity like this together will distract you from your first date nerves as you’ll have a common goal. Make sure that you go with an experienced guide though as there’s nothing romantic about picking poisonous mushrooms or being chased off someone’s land, because you are trespassing!
Pick your own
While we’re on the subject of locally sourced food, you could go on the hunt for the best pumpkin at your local pick your own farm. Most PYOs also have a café, so you can enjoy a cup of tea to warm yourselves up while you plan how you will carve your pumpkins.
Ghost walks
You don’t have to live in a big city to be able to access ghost walks; local theatre groups and historical societies organise ghost walks across the country, especially around Halloween time.
This is ideal for a first date as you can enjoy the activity without feeling under pressure to say something interesting. There’s also the opportunity to be chivalrous (or neo-chivalrous if you are female) if your date gets scared and needs to be protected from loud noises.
Bonfire night
Remember, remember the 5th of November when you’re looking for a fun evening out in November. Get into the spirit of things with your date by wrapping up warm, grabbing a hot toddy and enjoying the display.
