Bouncing Back From Rejection

In an ideal world, online dating would go like this – look around, find a person who you have lots in common with, send a string of messages to each other that confirm that you’re ideally suited, go on a number of successful dates, fall in love and marry.

However, for most people it is necessary to go on a number of unsuccessful dates before meeting ‘the one’, but don’t be disheartened, as every date teaches you something new.

Practice makes perfect

If you’re been on what you thought was a successful date, but then hear that your date doesn’t want to meet up again, it is very disheartening. However, going on a date is good practice and can be reassuring.  For example, you may have been shaking like a leaf when you arrived to meet you date, only to find that once you get over the initial nerves, first dates aren’t as scary as you first thought. You will also get to find out whether your choice of venue was suitable for a first date.

A new experience

Sometimes it’s great to be taken out of your comfort zone to try something new. If your date introduced you to a new activity that you enjoyed, you might wish to take it up as a hobby.

New stories

Whether you realise it or not, every new person helps to add to your repertoire of stories. Just remember not to tell your next date where you heard the story. You can also test out whether your favourite anecdote is a suitable discussion point for a first date, based on your date’s reaction.

Confidence building

It might sound odd to say that rejection can be confidence building, but by getting to the first date it shows that the person was interested in you based on your profile, unfortunately you can’t always tell in advance whether your shared interests will lead to chemistry when you meet.

Making new friends

If you enjoyed each other’s company, but didn’t fancy each other in person, you might wish to remain friends. You never know, your date might even have a friend who does turn out to be your perfect match.
