Weird Dating Advice

When it comes to dating, there’s a wealth of weird and wonderful advice out there. We’ve had a look at a four unusual dating tips and looked into what you can learn from them:
Wear red – Adam Alter author of ‘Drunk Tank Pink’, carried out a study whereby women altered the colour of their top every fortnight to see if it made a difference to the number of messages that they received. The study found that 21% of the messages that the women received over a course of a year were sent to them by men when they were pictured wearing red. The theory behind it, is that red is associated with love and romance. However, you might wish to avoid wearing red shoes if you’re a believer in the old wives tale.
He also mentions the not so weird bit of advice that the most effective dating messages refer to what the recipient has written in their dating profile, rather than a generic introduction.
A cheap date includes roses – According to the ‘cheap date index’ compiled by Deutsche Bank a cheap date includes; sending a standard bouquet of roses, paying for a taxi fare and buying two soft drinks, two film tickets and two beers. Their estimated cost for the date in London is £136. If you’re more of an outdoorsy person and live outside of the capital, we can assure you that going for a walk and then a pint in a countryside pub doesn’t cost £136. It also seems a bit too full on to buy roses for someone who you haven’t met before. If you wish to take flowers there are much more affordable and appropriate varieties.
Hire a car to impress a woman – A survey by Hertz said that 33% of men admitted to having hired a car to impress a date. The survey also said that both men and women would like to be picked up for a date in a Lamborghini. Although it might be tempting to live the high life for a day, it is a form of lying as your date will get the wrong impression about your lifestyle.
The older you are the longer you should wait to text – There’s such a thing as being too trigger happy when it comes to sending text messages, but ‘The New Rules: the dating do’s and don’ts for the digital generation’ takes things further by suggesting that you should wait a minimum of four hours before answering a text and that the ‘older you are the longer you should wait’. We’re not sure if that means that people in their 90s need to wait for days or how this works.
The only rule we would suggest is that you don’t send more than one message back for every message that you are sent as you don’t want to seem too pushy.
Men should have hairy faces and smooth chests – According to one study the optimum length of facial hair for men is achieved after 10 days. Men with developed stubble were found to more attractive than those with cleanly shaven faces or longer beards. However, women were less keen on chest hair, with the majority of women surveyed preferring clean-shaven chests on men.
