Last Minute Rural Halloween Costumes
Thursday, October 31st, 2013
If you’ve been invited to a Halloween party and are looking for a fun rural take on a costume, look no further than these low cost, last minute ideas. Yes, I am clutching at straws to tie Halloween into the Muddy Matches dating blog, but parties are a fantastic way to meet new people in a relaxed setting.
So here are some costume ideas that you can either put together from your own clothing or can make yourself for very little money:
Scarecrow – Dig out some scruffy, holey clothes and a straw hat, then liberally sprinkle straw over your clothing and stuff it in to the ends of your sleeves, trousers and around your neckline.
In terms of make-up or face paint, go for an orange nose and rosy cheeks. You could also draw a hatch on your cheek or forehead.
Bat – Go for an all-black outfit (not an all-blacks outfit) such as leggings and a long sleeved t-shirt. For your wings there are a number of options, depending on your budget, creativity and resources.
If you’re pretty handing with wire cutters and a sewing kit, you could try umbrella wings. If you try this option, make sure you carefully secure the ends, so that you don’t get hurt or manage to hurt anyone else.
A safer option, is to make black fabric wings, or even to buy a pair of bat wings from the shops.
Either paint your face completely black or draw bat wings across your face in the style of Batman.
Wasp – Spheksophobia is a surprisingly common fear, so a wasp costume covers the scary criteria of a Halloween costume. To style yourself as a wasp, go for a yellow and black striped top with black bottom half, wings, and some antennae.
To make your own wasp wings from a coat hangers and tights click here and to make the antennae, you can use a black headband, some pipe cleaners, strong glue and painted table tennis balls or pom poms.
Cowboy/cowgirl – Ok, so this one isn’t scary, but you just want to dress up, this is a very easy one to pull off. All you will need is a pair of light denim jeans, a checked shirt and a cowboy hat.
