How to Market Yourself

There are two ways to go about internet dating; you can sit back and hope for the best, or you can be proactive and make sure that you get the most out of it by ‘marketing’ yourself. So if you’re prepared to be proactive and to make sure that you get the most from your subscription, here are a few tips to get yourself seen by potential matches.

Photos, photos, photos – Make sure that you have a Main Photo were you can clearly see your face. A good photo will draw people into reading your profile more than a blurry one or one where your face is obscured. It’s also important to add a selection of Additional Photos that tell people more about you. Even if you’re not 100% happy with you looks (who is?) just remember that the thing that you don’t like about yourself may well be the thing that someone else will find very attractive. One last thing, don’t forget to smile!

Winning profile text – I’m afraid that I can’t give you precise instructions for writing your profile text, but please don’t stop reading! The key to writing a stand-out profile is to make your profile unique to you. Avoid clichés such as saying that you enjoy a “bottle of wine and a DVD”, “going out or staying in” and “spending time with friends”. Think of things that make you unique to make you stand out and remember to be positive.

Make yourself known – Take a look at peoples’ profiles and add them to your favourites to let them know that you like them, that way they will be more likely to view your profile and to contact you than if they were just carrying out a search.

Send messages – The most obvious and effective way to market yourself is to send messages to people.  If you’re stuck for ideas on what to say take a look at our blog posts on the subject. Remember, it’s better to send something short and sweet, than nothing at all.
