Be Nice to Yourself
Tuesday, March 17th, 2015
Being nice to yourself is often a lot harder than being nice to other people, but when it comes to online dating, it’s an important thing to do.
Here’s how you can be nice to yourself and help yourself to find love.
Recognise your best qualities
Your online dating profile should show you in the best light, so think about what makes you unique and interesting. If you’re stuck for ideas, ask a friend what comes to mind when they think of you; it may be your ability to cook an amazing casserole, your enthusiasm for trying new things, or your ability to make other people laugh.
Don’t go on a date out of sympathy
If someone asks you out on a date, make sure that you are really interested in meeting them. If you are only going on a date because you don’t want to offend someone, it isn’t kind to either of you in the long run. Remember that a simple ‘thank you, but I don’t think that we would be compatible’ is better than leading someone on. However, if you’re undecided about someone, you may find that your feelings change when you meet them.
Ignore criticism
When you’re single, you’ll find that lots of ‘helpful’ friends and family will make comments about when you’re going to find someone nice to settle down with. They may even start to suggest that you meet up with their single friends. You don’t need to fit in with anyone’s timescale. Take your time and go on as many or as few dates as you want to.
Take time out
If you want a break from online dating, you can use the ‘hide my profile’ function on Muddy Matches, which will allow you to hide your profile from public view, without having to re-write it when you want to get back to online dating.
