Responding to Rejection

Unfortunately rejection is just part and parcel of online dating, so it’s important to know how to deal with it so that you can move on and meet someone new.

What to do if someone doesn’t add you to their ‘favourites’ list

Check to see if they have looked at your profile – if they haven’t, they haven’t had a chance to see what you are like yet and you should wait to see what they say.

If you are particularly keen to attract their attention, the best thing to do is to send them a message.

What to do if you get no response to a message

If you’ve sent someone a message and have not heard back from them yet, here is what to do:

1. Check their ‘active within’ status on their profile – if they haven’t been online since you sent the message, they won’t have seen the message. Be patient and see if they respond to you when you are next online.
2. If they have been online, but haven’t responded – do not send them another message asking why they have not responded yet. They may be thinking of what to say, they may not have chosen to subscribe just yet, or sadly they may not be interested in you and do not want to have to tell you.

What to do if you don’t hear anything after a date

If you’ve been on a date with someone and don’t hear from them within a few days, you should send a message to them saying that you enjoyed meeting with them and that you’d love to meet up again soon. If you still don’t get a response from them, it is time to move on and look for someone who is polite enough to at least you know what they are thinking.

If you do find that you are rejected by someone, don’t take it personally, it may just not be the right time for them. Get back online and get in touch with one of the many other people who would be delighted to hear from you.
