Whether you’re on a first date, or a third date, it’s important to be considerate of your companion. Here are some tips to make sure that you’re on your best behaviour.

Look good and smell nice

The most important piece of advice for a date is to make sure that you look presentable and smell fresh and clean.

Sweatiness is consistently listed as the biggest dating turn-off and bad breath is also a big turn-off.

Don’t share a lift

Old fashioned dating etiquette says that you should offer to pick your date up and take them to the venue. However, for safety’s sake, you should arrange your own transport and meet in a busy public place.

Ignore your phone

It’s infuriating to look over at your date and to see them looking at your phone when you’re talking to them. It is disrespectful and shows that you aren’t willing to give the person your full attention. Keep your phone off the table so that you don’t get distracted by incoming messages.

Don’t get drunk

One, or two drinks can help you to relax on your date, but getting drunk is terrible for a number of reasons. Even if you think that you’re a charming drunk, it’s unlikely that your date will find you to be a delight if you’re rambling on, or talking really loudly.

Choose complimentary food

If you go for dinner, plan what you’re going to order at the start of the meal and make sure that you’re looking at similar things. It’s a bit odd if one person orders and starter and the other doesn’t, unless you’re willing to share.
