If you are new to online dating, or have come back to dating websites after a long period of time, it’s important to focus on the basics. So what are the basics and how can you master them?

Fill in all your details

When you first sign up to a dating website, you may be tempted to just fill in the essentials so that you can rush through it and get started. However, filling in all of the details can help people to find you in their searches.

For example, people may specifically be looking for a partner who is retired, or for someone who is a non-smoker.

If you’ve already ploughed through this stage, take 10 minutes to sign in to your Muddy Matches account and to fill in all the information to the left hand side of your profile.

Make your profile stand out

How would you summarise yourself in one sentence? Your first sentence will be the most read line of your profile and will encourage people to read on. Make sure that it doesn’t just say “I’m not sure what to say here” or anything else that could apply to anyone. You are unique and your profile text should reflect that fact. If you’re stuck for ideas, just mention some of your favourite things that will help people to start a conversation with you.

Smile for the camera

Once you’ve got your basic information sorted and you’ve added some scintillating profile text, it’s time to add some photos.

Your Main Photo will be the first thing that anyone sees, therefore it should be a truthful representation of who you are (no sneaky photo editing, or 90s throwbacks). Choose a recent photograph where you can clearly see your face. If you don’t have any suitable photographs, ask a friend to take one for you, or go for a selfie if you’re keen to get started without a helping hand.

In addition to your  Main Photo, you can also add a selection of additional photos to show your figure and to let people know more about your interests.
