How to Play it Cool

Nerves can get the better of you at every stage of online dating. You may be worried about signing up the first place, about getting in contact with people, or meeting up in person. It’s perfectly natural to worry about the unknown, but we have some tips to help you to stay cool, calm and collected.
Make dating easier
Online dating shouldn’t be a chore, but it can become overwhelming if you spend lots of time on it. When you sign up to a dating website, you don’t need to write 1000 words about your whole life story. Just write a few short paragraphs about who you are and what you are looking for in a partner.
You can also save time by saving search terms so that you don’t have to start a new search each time. Once you find someone you like, add them to your ‘favourites’ list so that it’s easy to contact them when you have had a chance to think about what you want to say to them. By adding someone to your ‘favourites’ list you may even find that they send you a message as they have been encouraged by your interest in them.
Relax
Take time on your own to relax away from work and dating. Exercise is a great way to deal with nervous energy and getting out into nature is also proven to help people to relax. Taking a stroll outside, going for a jog, doing the garden, or going horse riding are all great options.
Take a deep breath
Breathing is something that we all do without even thinking about it, but when it comes to relaxing there’s nothing better than taking a big deep breath that really fills up your lungs. Concentrate on breathing properly, rather than taking lots of shallow breaths, which is the natural thing to do when you are under stress.
Don’t get your hopes up too high
Meeting the love of your life is a wonderful thing that means that you can truly be yourself around someone who means the world to you. However, it is not healthy to pin all of your hopes on one person and to expect them to change your life completely.
If you are convinced that your date will be the love of your life before you even lay your eyes on them then you are setting yourself up for a fall.
