Relationship Counselling for Single People?
Sunday, January 08th, 2017
Relationship counselling is for people who are in unhappy marriages, or long term relationships, right? Well, according to relationship counselling charity Relate, single people can benefit from relationship counselling too.
So what are the signs that you would benefit from counselling for single people?
You have had your heart broken
Experiencing a breakup is one of the most painful things that you will go through in your life, especially if you had envisioned that you would spend the rest of your life together, or if the breakdown happened unexpectedly.
For many people, the pain of a breakup can last for many years and can create a sense of angst that will stop them from embarking upon another relationship for fear that they will experience the same feelings with everyone whom they meet.
If you find that you are scared of meeting someone new based on your past experiences, or that you cannot bring yourself to stop thinking about your ex, then you might benefit from counselling.
You feel worthless
Whether you have lost your self-confidence due to a romantic relationship, or due to a number of other factors, feeling worthless can have an extremely negative impact on your life and your relationships.
Most people compare themselves to others and believe that they would be happier if they were taller, thinner, more muscly etc, but the problem arises if you start to believe that you are not worthy of being treated with respect.
Counselling can help you to come to terms with why you feel worthless and help you to find ways to feel more confident about yourself.
You have a history of unhealthy relationships
If you have consistently dated people who have the same characteristics that are not conducive with a healthy relationship, then you may find that you are subconsciously drawn to certain types of people. A trained health practitioner can help you to identify what is going on and help you to identify ways to break this pattern.
