Nobody is looking at my Dating Profile
Friday, April 28th, 2017
Thousands of people sign up to online dating websites every day, which is great if you like a lot of choice, but it can mean that it is difficult to stand out from the crowd if you want people to come to you.
So… how can you make sure that people notice you?
Choose a flattering photo
The prominence of mobile phone cameras has led to a huge increase in the number of selfies that are used on peoples’ dating profiles. This means that you will see lots of mirror photos and photos taken with an outstretched arm. Neither of these techniques makes for a stand-out photo. If you are wanting to choose a photo that makes you look a bit more professional, ask a friend to take a flattering photo of you that clearly shows your head and shoulders.
Wear something bright
Most people choose to wear blue, black, grey, or dark green clothing in their online. Choosing a bright colour like red, pink, orange, or yellow so that your photograph is the brightest of the bunch and stands out in a sea of dark colours.
Avoid clichés
Every other dating profile contains one of the following clichés:
- “I’ve never done this before”
- “I never thought I’d try online dating”
- “I like spending time with my friends”
- “I enjoy staying in and going out”
- “I don’t know what to say”
- “I’m looking for a partner in crime”.
If you want to be more noticeable than before, make sure that your profile is unique and tells people about who you are, rather than using clichés.
Use your first sentence as a summary
Newspapers use the first line to tell you about what they are about to explain in more detail. This technique is useful for dating profiles as well as many people will only read the first line of your profile before deciding to move on.
Think about how your would sum up your personality in just one sentence and carry on from there.
There is lots more advice in the dating blogs to help you with writing your profile, choosing a photograph and sending messages.
