First Date Conversation Tips
Sunday, September 03rd, 2017
Congratulations, you’ve got yourself a first date. Now there’s the excitement of choosing where to go, what to wear and how to keep the conversation flowing naturally. Here are some tips for ensuring that you both get to know each other well on your first date.
Me, myself and I
First date conversation should be split pretty evenly, which means that you should avoid beginning every sentence with ‘I’ and try to add in some questions that will help you to learn more about your date.
Don’t give one word answers
On the other hand, if your date is asking you lots of questions, try to answer them in a way that will keep conversation going, rather than just saying ‘yes’, or ‘no’.
Avoid talking over one another
When conversation gets going you will find that you will naturally begin to speak over one another. However, try to hold back, so that you can both hear one another and really listen to what you are both saying.
Explore common ground
Read through their dating profile before you head out for your date and make sure that you pay attention to their hobbies and interests. Shared interests are a great way to establish a bond and to show off what you are both passionate about.
Flirt a little
Flirting shows that you are attracted to your date and if they flirt back you will get a good indication of whether they are interested in you, or not.
Keep upbeat
We all love a good moan (no that’s not an innuendo), but a first date is not the place to moan about your awful manager, or your embarrassing family. Try to keep to positive topics like hobbies and travel.
