Unrealistic Expectations
Sunday, April 08th, 2018
If you have been single for a long time, you might have been told a few times that you are being too fussy. Here are some some things that show that you might have unrealistic expectations.
Expecting to find love instantly
We’ll never fail to be surprised about just how many people join a dating website after years of being single and expect to find the man, or woman of their dreams within a week. Yes, some people do click with the first person whom they speak to, but for most people it takes months to meet someone special.
Aiming for a large age gap
Unless you are a super rich and famous like Ronnie Wood, the late Hugh Heffner, or Donald Trump, then it is a little unrealistic to expect to be able to attract someone who is much younger than you are.
Age-gap relationships can work, but they often mean that you will not understand the same cultural references as one another and you will have a lot of misunderstandings as people assume that your partner is your child.
An age gap of less than 10 years would be more appropriate and will give you a better chance of success.
Wanting to be swept off your feet
Life isn’t a fairy tale and normal relationships do not involve you being won over with grand public gestures like musical performances, or stopping a plane as it leaves the airport to declare your undying love for someone (you will be arrested for stopping a plane in its tracks).
Instead of looking for a fairy tale romance, try to look for someone who will treat you with love and respect.
Expecting everyone to get in contact you
Online dating should be a two way process, however many people go into the whole process expecting other people to get in contact with them, without ever choosing to make the first move.
If you like someone, then send them a message to let them know!
