Things People say to Single People
Sunday, September 18th, 2016
When you are single, you will find out that you are a great source of entertainment for your friends and family and you will also find that they will be keen to give you advice (some welcome and some not so welcome).
Here are some of the things that you will hear a lot, but we’d love to hear about any more unusual comments that you have been on the receiving end of!
“I can’t believe you are still single”
This is usually meant to be complimentary and is often followed by “you’re such a catch”, or you’re “such a great person”. It is intended to boost your confidence, but can leaving you wondering why you are still single if you are such a great catch.
“You don’t need to do online dating”
This statement is usually superseded by ‘helpful’ suggestions like “you should try meeting someone in the pub”, or “have you tried an evening course?”.
Of course you’ve thought of other options, but pubs are noisy and full of drunk people, or people who you’ve met 100 times before.
Online dating allows you to find out about someone’s personality and interests in advance, so that you don’t just end up having a drunken snog with just anyone.
“I’d love to be single again”
“Good for you, but it’s probably best that you don’t tell your partner that”. From the outside, single life is all about the thrill of the chase, the freedom to do what you want when you want and the ability to live without random socks on the floor.
However, along with these perks, you would like to have someone special to share life with and preferably someone who will encourage you to be yourself an to continue doing all the things that you love to do.
“I met my partner…”
People will love telling you how they met their partner if you say that you are looking to meet someone yourself. Just because they stumbled upon their partner at a Young Farmer’s dance, it doesn’t mean that you’ll find love on the dance floor.
