“From the moment we met, it just felt right.”

The muddy love story of Jen and Martin.
When the bride rolls up to church in her dad’s prized John Deere 6820 workhorse of a tractor – decked out with wildflowers – you know it’s a Muddy Matches inspired wedding.
Safe to say, the groom also knew he was marrying a woman with impeccable taste – not just in men, but in machinery too!
“I’m just relieved Jen didn’t break down on the way there. I did warn her it had been raining all week, but she was determined.” says Martin, who also arrived in a convey of tractors, arranged by his groomsmen.
Jen and Martin’s muddy love story started in the Autumn eight years ago, with a simple profile favourite on Muddy Matches. Jen was a farmer’s daughter ‘happiest in wellies’ whilst Martin was a part time groundsman looking for someone to share a good pub roast with on a Sunday.
Countless roasts and many ‘mud baths’ of dog walking dates down the line with Jen’s furry trio of Bramble, Moss and Patch, and their connection was rock solid.
She’d said yes before Martin even had chance to get down on one knee when he proposed three years ago, such was the strength of feeling.
“From the moment we met, it just felt right,” Jen tells us. “Martin is my rock. We’ve gone from messaging on Muddy Matches to managing a farm, rescuing more dogs than we probably should, and now being husband and wife.”
“Life’s thrown up a few challenges, but we’ve tackled them together – just like we do everything else. I wouldn’t change a thing.”
Fast forward to the wedding reception in Martin’s hometown of Helmsley; it was a thing of rustic charm with a beautifully decorated stone barn decked out with bunting, hay bale seating, and a cake with miniature tractor toppers (now a Muddy Matches standard). The dancefloor, the pair tell us, was handmade from old wooden pallets they had gathered on their travels.
Here’s to a lifetime of love, laughter, and maybe a few more tractors in the future!
